Big Brother 2009 was the first series of a family/friend based party night. Since it's first series which lasts over one night every year. Sandra won the first series to the surprise of the contestants, public and bookmakers. She won with 52.0% of the final vote. Many critics blame her victory on a betting scandal. The series began and ended on 19th September 2009.
Summary[]
All Housemates entered on Day 1 and there were no later additions in the series. During the first week housemates competed in the first ever task to kick things off, at random housemates drew either 'marmite' or 'goats cheese' which they subsequently had to eat. All housemates passed except for Chris who spat his goats cheese out and Holly and Steve who refused to attempt the task. The Housemates then nominated for the first time. Steve, Robert and Chris were chosen to face the first public vote. Robert was evicted on Day 7 just as the Bookmakers had predicted.
In Week 2, Housemates had to place flags on the correct countries on a World map, Housemates passed by placing the majority in the correct position. Afterwards, the housemates nominated John, Sandra and U Steve to face the second eviction, John was evicted on Day 14 with 46.0% of the vote.
During the third week, housemates were blindfolded and had to direct themselves over a course without touching the ground, the housemates passed for the second week running, despite Sandra refusing to have any part in the task. For the third set of nominations Big Brother told housemates they were to vote for one housemate to save from the vote. Gramps and Sandra both recieved two nominations and should have been saved. Big Brother nominated Sandra to join Chris, Elaine, Gramps, Holly, Steve and U Steve as nominees for a double eviction that Friday due to her task-related rule break. U Steve and Holly became the third and fourth housemates evicted on Day 21.
In the Final Week, housemates took part in a food tasting task, which they all subsequently failed bar Elaine. On Day 28, it was revealed that Elaine and Gramps (the bookies favourites at the time) had finished fifth and fourth respectively, Steve came third and Chris became runner up to Sandra.
